French Colonies in Africa


French Algeria: From 1848 until independence, the whole Mediterranean regAlgeria: Algeria is located in the northern of Africa, between Morocco and Tunisia. It is the largest country in Africa the northern is an area of mountains, valleys, and plateaus between the Mediterranean Sea and the Sahara Desert this areas form a section of North Africa knows as the Maghreb also its geographic location make Algeria a multicultural country.




ion of Algeria was administered as an integral part of France also it was never considered part of France. Algeria becomes a destination for many European immigrants. Gradually, dissatisfaction among the Muslim population with its lack of political and economic status fueled calls for greater political autonomy this cause a violent event know as Algerian War.

Morocco: Morocco is a Northern African country, bordering the North Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea many areas of Morocco are mountainous, Atlas Mountains are located in the center and the south of the country, finally the Rif Mountains are located in the north of the country.
France Protectorate of Morocco: was a French protectorate in Morocco, established by the Treaty of Fez. French don’t include the north part of Morocco because this part was colonized by Spain. The establishment of the French protectorate of Morocco followed century’s long France Morocco relations.


French West Africa: is located in Africa's westernmost point to the depths of the Sahara with an area of some 4,689,000 square kilometers, also included the entire Senegal River valley, most of the Niger River valley, and most of the West African Sahel region and have many tropical forests.

French West Africa: As the French pursued their part in the scramble for Africa in the 1880s and 1890s, the first rule Senegal colony then the French government began to rein in the territorial expansion of its officers on the ground, and transferred all the territories west of Gabon to a single Governor based in Senegal.

French Equatorial Africa: was the federations of French colonial possessions in Middle Africa, extending northwards from the Congo River to the Sahara Desert, some of the territories are Chad, Gabon, and French Congo.
French Equatorial Africa: Established in 1910, the federation contained five territories French Congo and Gabon, Oubangui-Chari, Chad and French Cameroon, although the last was not organized as a separate entity until 1920. In 1911 France gives part of the territory to Germany; the territory was return when Germany loses the World War 1. Finally during the late 1920s and early 1930s an anti-colonial movement was established by André Matsoua, seeking French citizenship for the territory's inhabitants.


French Somaliland: was a French colony in the Horn of Africa was Established after the French signed various treaties between ruling Somali Sultans. Finally the colony lasted from 1896 until 1946, when it became an overseas territory of France. It is located in the East of Africa close to the red sea.
